The survey of 27 healthcare technology, executive and finance respondents found that integration remains a significant priority as organizations increase their focus on automation, analytics and artificial intelligence. Nearly six in 10 respondents (59%) cited poor integration with other systems, including EHR and billing systems, as one of their biggest ERP challenges.
None of the respondents reported fully connected, real-time data across clinical, financial and supplier systems. Forty-four percent described their integration as partial, 30% as minimal, 15% reported no integration and 11% were unsure.
At the same time, organizations are actively exploring new uses of AI. Nearly six in 10 respondents (59%) are not using AI currently, but are exploring use cases, while only 37% said they were very or extremely confident their ERP environment could support regulatory reporting and future AI-driven decision-making.
“Healthcare organizations are moving quickly to identify where AI and automation can create value, but those capabilities depend on the quality, integration and usability of the underlying ERP environment,” said Bill Starks, President at Acuvance ROI. “The opportunity is to build on the investments organizations have already made by improving how data, systems and workflows work together.”
Optimization Priorities Extend Across the Enterprise
The survey included respondents using a range of enterprise platforms, including Workday, Infor, Oracle, PeopleSoft and other systems. Nearly two-thirds (63%) identified their primary role as IT or technology, while 30% were executive or administrative professionals.
When asked about their top ERP optimization priorities for the next 12 months, respondents most frequently selected reducing operational costs (37%), suggesting that organizations are increasingly looking to ERP optimization as a lever for broader operational efficiency. Increasing automation followed at 33%, while improving system integration and upgrading or migrating ERP environments were each selected by 30%.
“Healthcare organizations have made substantial investments in ERP technology, and the focus is increasingly on realizing more value from those investments,” Starks said. “That means strengthening integrations, improving workflows and reporting, and creating an enterprise environment that can support the next generation of automation, analytics and AI.”
