Global Competition Connects Young Investors Across Four Continents with Real-World ESG Benchmarks and Professional Investment Standards
NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Global Investment Contest (GIC) announced the winners of the 2026 Global Youth Sustainability & ESG Investing Challenge (GYSIC), recognizing exceptional young investors for their achievements in sustainable investing, portfolio construction, and ESG research.
The competition attracted 4,279 students from 586 schools and universities across four continents. Following multiple rounds of evaluation, 121 teams advanced to the semifinals, with 12 teams selected as finalists.
Finalists represented leading institutions including the University of Cambridge, Yale University, Carnegie Mellon University, Harvard University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, and Sadat Academy for Management Sciences in Egypt.
The competition’s Gold Medal recipients included Team DGHR Impact from the University of Cambridge and Shogo O’Connor of Yale University, recognized for their rigorous investment research, portfolio strategies, and integration of sustainability into investment decisions.
“One of the most valuable aspects of the competition was having to bring together investment analysis, portfolio construction and sustainability into one coherent strategy,” said Shogo O’Connor of Yale University. “It pushed us to think about ESG not simply as an additional screen, but as part of understanding long-term investment risks and opportunities.”
Team DGHR Impact, representing the University of Cambridge, demonstrated a disciplined approach to sustainable portfolio construction, combining financial analysis, quantitative methodology, and ESG considerations.
The competition also recognized outstanding Silver Medal recipients:
Melisa Kucuk — Harvard University
Zixu Li and Zhenghan He — Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF)
Mirabbos Anorkulov — Carnegie Mellon University Qatar
These recipients demonstrated strong research capabilities, innovative investment thinking, and the ability to translate sustainability principles into practical investment strategies.
“The quality of work presented by this year’s winners reflects exactly what GYSIC was designed to encourage,” said the 2026 GYSIC Management Committee. “These students approached sustainable investing not simply as an academic exercise, but as a real investment challenge requiring research, judgment, quantitative analysis, and a clear understanding of long-term risks and opportunities.”
The Committee emphasized that the competition aims to develop future investment leaders who can navigate the intersection of financial performance, emerging technologies, sustainability, and global capital markets.
The competition featured Modeling Track and Trading Track recognizing excellence in different aspects of investment management.
Participants were evaluated on investment methodology, portfolio construction, ESG integration, quantitative analysis, risk management, and professional presentation.
The 2026 Challenge received support from financial institutions, academic organizations, and industry partners committed to sustainable investment education.
China Asset Management (ChinaAMC) supported the competition, with the Rayliant-ChinaAMC Transformative China Tech ETF (NASDAQ: CNQQ) designated as one of its official investment benchmarks.
The ETF tracks the Solactive ChinaAMC Transformative China Tech Index, providing exposure to China’s technology and innovation sectors. Its inclusion helped participants explore thematic investing, technological transformation, and portfolio diversification.
Other official benchmarks included the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World Index, iShares MSCI World SRI UCITS ETF, and iShares ESG Aware MSCI USA ETF.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Academy also supported the program by providing access to sustainability reporting education and professional development opportunities.
Founded in 2013, GIC has engaged more than 17,000 contestants across its programs, connecting students from leading universities with the global investment industry.
Building on the success of the 2026 Challenge, the Management Committee will launch the 2027 Global Youth Sustainability & ESG Investing Challenge, expanding its international university network, institutional partnerships, and opportunities for emerging investment professionals.
The initiative continues GIC’s mission of developing the next generation of investors through research, innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration.
